Established in 2000, AKAB School for the Blind is accredited by the AJK Government and the national certifying organizations. Located in Mirpur Azad Kashmir (Pakistan) AKAB School for the Blind is a private, non-profit institution dedicated to educating children and youth.

The school witch has enrollment of 125 plus male and female students and receives its funding from the friends and volunteers, offers pre-school through high school programs, free of charge hostel facility, food and transport. The visually impaired children have special access to the local Cricket stadium, parks and entertainment places.

 
 

Muhammad Ilyas Ayub Muhammad Ilyas Ayub a visually impaired philanthropist is a professor of English in Government College Mirpur Azad Kashmir (Pakistan). He received basic training in Braille from Sun Rise Institute for the Blind in Lahore. A gold medallist in Bachelor of Arts from Government College Lahore and Master degree holder in English Literature from Punjab University Lahore, he appeared as the first-ever visually impaired candidate in Public Services Commission Examination from Azad Kashmir. He established Azad Kashmir Association of the Blind (AKAB) in 1994 and AKAB School for the Blind in 2000.
